Code Name: Street Experiment
If it’s street you want, it’s street
you got! Here’s an interesting bike for
those interested in ultimate urban usage. It’s
called the Street Experiment, and it comes from
artist/designer/inventor/philosopher Brian Miller
of Chicago, Illinois.
The Street Experiment is designed to offer
the street rider a durable, agile, quick, and
compact machine. To accomplish this, Brian has
designed a number of interesting things.
Note the front wheel, a 24 incher. It helps
keep the bike compact as well as having a low
rotational mass. These translate into lightweight,
quick acceleration, and quick braking.
On the rear we find a large diameter wheel.
Testing indicated to Brian that because the
rear supports most of the rider weight, the
larger wheel could offer more impact protection
from road deformities. It also increases rider
comfort and increases traction.
As for the rider position, which to the lay
eye looks cramped, Brian tells us that the upright
bars are positioned so that they’re just
above the height of “drops” on a
road bike. This yields a highly aero position
that makes use of maximum leg strength.
Having registered this design with the US Patent
and Trademark office, it looks like Brian is
serious with this design. Info? Write him at
